Let's highlight the compelling reasons why you should choose Reliable Spine for your care?

Reliability and Expertise

At Reliable Spine, our name says it all. We are your trusted spine care providers, registered by the General Chiropractic Council. Our recommendations and therapies are backed by the latest research evidence and have been successfully tested in patients just like you.

Long-Term Solutions

Unlike quick fixes, our approach focuses on long-term solutions. Research and nearly a decade of clinical experience has shown that a history of back pain increases the risk of recurrence. By tailoring our approach to lasting results, we prioritise your well-being beyond immediate relief.

Empowering Education

We believe in empowering our patients. Understanding your condition, its origins, and prevention strategies is crucial. Our team educates you on your specific problem, equipping you with lifestyle guidance, personalised exercises, and nutritional advice to enhance spine health and overall wellness.

Diverse Treatment Options

One size doesn't fit all. Our skilled clinicians assess each case individually and recommend the most appropriate treatment option(s). From scoliosis specific exercises to scoliosis bracing. We offer a range of bracing to suit each individual needs including soft braces (SpineCor), 3D over correcting braces (CMP) and degenerative scoliosis specific braces (TechnoSpine TLSO). We do not try to fix every patient into 1 treatment option.

What a Normal Healthy Reliable Spine and an Ideal Posture looks like?

A normal spine should appear straight when viewed from the back. When viewed from the side it should appear s-shaped with 3 nice smooth curves. The top curve is the neck and it curves inwards, the middle curve forms the mi-back and curves backwards and the lower curves forms the lower back which curves inwards. These three curves should sit directly above each other so the spine can act like a spring to help and support the body weight above and absorb shock. When posture is viewed from the back or front, the head should be straight (NO head tilt), shoulders and waist should look even and be aligned directly above each other, aligned in balance with the feet. Viewed from the side, the head be directly above the shoulders (NO forward head), shoulders directly above the waist with NO compensation on the pelvis or legs.

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a 3-D torsional deformity of the spine, resulting in abnormal side curvatures when viewed from the back. These abnormal curvatures cause the shoulders to appear uneven, with a protruding/prominent shoulder blade on one side, a noticeable rib-hump on one side when bending forward and uneven waistline. This usually result in clothes not fitting well. When viewed from the side, the spine may lose its normal s-shaped appearance, making the mid-back look flat and shoulder blades more prominent. Scoliosis alters posture, straining the spine, causing back pain, and affecting appearance. If scoliosis is a progressive condition, if left untreated or if inappropriately managed it worsens, leading to chronic back pain, and disability. This can significantly impact quality of life as people with untreated or inappropriately managed scoliosis, are often seen struggling with day-to-day activities and end up bed or wheelchair bound, reduced heart and lung function. In adolescents’ scoliosis can impact children’s self-esteem, confidence, and sporting activities. An early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial for good long-term outcomes and to improve quality of life.

Types of scoliosis

Whether you are young or an adult, the earlier scoliosis is detected the more effective treatment will be, helping to reduce the potential risk for progression and the need for surgery.

Adult scoliosis

Back pain is a significant issue for many adult scoliosis patients. Pain is usually located at the site of the curve; nearby muscles may also feel sore and tender. Pain is usually worse when sitting or standing and improves when laying down, however, in other cases pain could be constant and not depend upon position and could travel from the spine into the hips, legs or less commonly the arms. Other concerns of scoliosis in adults include significant postural changes and curve progression. Research has shown that, pain is related to changes in posture and spinal alignment. Therefore, addressing these two can significantly improve pain. Our fundamental principle at Reliable Spine is to manage PAIN, correct POOR POSTURE and stop or reduce CURVE PROGRESSION. This is achieved by improving the patient’s posture, coronal (when being looked at from the side) and sagittal (when being looked at from the front) balance.

How common is scoliosis?

The prevalence of scoliosis increases with increasing age where 3 to 5% of children under the age of 16 years are affected, that is approximately one student in each class at school. About 5% of the over 18-year-olds are affected, 9% in the over 40-year-olds and about 30%+ in the over 60-year-olds suffer from scoliosis.

How is scoliosis treated?

Whether you are young or an adult, the earlier scoliosis is detected the more effective treatment will be, helping to reduce the potential risk for progression and the need for surgery.
